a colleague mentioned today that cattle-roughs with an automatic
arrangement are not unusual - involving some sort of side-tank
arrangement, with a simple connecting pipe between the two, so both
go to the same level, and with float-valves to keep the side-tank
full, and so the trough, too - presumably the idea being to keep all
the delicate stuff enclosed & out of reach of the cows ...
