So being dense...........

This simply amplifies the signal from the LNB allowing you to run
multiple boxes?

I'm sure that there are others here who understand the technical bits but I
think that's what it does.

With the right LNB each multiswitch allows 8 sky boxes to be controlled
separately so in a block of flats or a large house everyone can do their
own
thing.
