A switch or hub *WON'T* work as it isn't a router - the cablemodem has no
router built in. Get a router on there and it'll work for as many devices
as
you could ever want to put on it. (Where's the 5 devices figure coming
from?)

But then you'd need some form of load sharing / load balancing which I
haven't seen supported on *ANY* broadband routers aimed at the domestic
market. You can't just "double up" lines.
