I think the original idea was to reduce the number of drives by
replacing
them with larger capacity ones.

In the spirit of if it ain't broke don't fix it (a bit of anathema to us
dabblers though), perhaps Phil should just buy another Mac Mini and either
to give to his mate, or replace the one he's currently using (noticed a PPC
one went for =A3125 or ebay a few days ago)
