Re: Network media player
I phoned up Freecom support and the guy was very helpful but a little
out
of his depth. The issue seemed to be that I use user security on the NAS
(each user needs a profile) and there is no way of providing a user name
and password on the Freecom unit. Whilst he could not say for sure he felt
80% sure that it would not work. There was also the need for the Freecom
unit to have software running on the PC supplying the DVD files which
looked like it would rule a NAS out too. There was also no uPnP support
for instance. Conversely the guys selling the HD MediaBox MB100 said it
would work.
I guess I'll find out on Friday. The UI didn't get slated in the reviews
and ignoring comments like not wireless and no drive fitted as standard it
seemed to tick all the boxes I need.

The Freecom Network Media Player can do this (it's a rebadged MediaGate
MG-35)
The issues with the MG-35 are really the sucky UI and the patchy codec
support. Still, we did use one for many years, and it's not basket
case.
