I can't imagine why it would be any more of a problem than with a
combi
(in fact with direct heating I would expect it to be worse), and since
they are "one box" solutions, I bet the usual solution is to
replace the
whole thing.  However, if Gledhill are particularly prone to this, there
are plenty of other manufacturers to choose from.
