Thanks for this and all the responses.  I will subscribe to the
selfbuild group and post but thermal stores seem to get the thumbs up
from here.  I was at a county show today and poped in on a company
that did renewables, UFH etc etc and they had a Chelmer tank on
display and will do supply only on this or other brands.

I want to stay with the plumber I have as he has a v good reputation
and has actually got back to me which most of the plumbers haven't!
He has fitted thermal stores but has found them (Gledhill)
problematic as the inner water ways in the heat exchanger fir up (on
the potable water side).  Fernox do a solution that can lift the
calcium off if "power flushed through, and the house currently has a
comnbi boiler which I may just take apart to see what it looks like.
Gledhil recommend jsut replacing the heat exchanger, more sales for
them but it seems a bit excessive.
