Thanks Mark, I've waded though pages of the forum posts and
although this problem appears a number of times, it always
seems to be caused by either burning the DVD at too fast a
speed, or pilot error.  I'm now waist-deep in DVDs burned at
every speed possible, and the results are always the same.
Gonna try the BIOS update, but don't hold your breath
