ADSL Phone sockets

Hi all, Help!

Unfortunately my new house has a connection via to ADSL to TalkTalk (which
I
want to bin!) but in the mean time I need to connect my TiVo to a phone
line..

I have a BT socket on the wall so I thought I would take a set of wires
from
the punch down connectors to another socket, plug in an ADSL filter and
away
we go..

But like all things so simple it does not work! As soon as I punch down a
bit of wire (solid core) into connector 5 the phone does not work! It does
not have to be connected to anything just punched down..

I seem to remember I need to cut out the capacitor(?) SP1 out, is this
correct?

In my last house I had a phone system fitted but I do not think I can
connect this to the existing ADSL socket?

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

B.
