Re: Smoke alarms

Ho Yin

This is a very similar question to my own. I am no expert but it sounds
like you want an "interlinkable" detector, you could use the link
to alert
of triggering but I do not think these will alert battery status.
Interlinkable alarms can be found in 240 and 24, 12 and 9V variants (IIRC),
I think the 24V ones are intended to be linked into a panel.

This alarm looked good in a tight space as it is combined with a seling
lighting rose
http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Fire_and_Smoke/Housesafe/index.html

I contacted them and they can make up a relay to allow connection to a low
voltage (HA) system,

For off-the shelf ones interlinking Kidde ones I mentioned in a previous
thread ( <http://www.yourhomedirect.co.uk/acatalog/mains_smoke_alarms.html>
http://www.yourhomedirect.co.uk/acatalog/mains_smoke_alarms.html)
offer
smoke ionisation, smoke optical and heat options (covering all the
detectoion bases) and there is a relay to allow "door release,
external
sounder" etc. If they work for that (240V) then HomeSeer Should be
able to
see it too.

I prefer the idea of battery backed mains, as the battery can be replaced
on
a maintenance cycle and most of the time it will be powered by the mains.
However as I mentioned before you won't get an alert if it triggers on
battery as the relay will only operate at 240V, if I've understood
correctly.
