I bought a Topfield PVR-5800 (http://www.toppy.org.uk) when I was in
the ex=
act same situation 18 months ago.  It does pseudo season-passes by
searchin=
g program titles for text strings.  Not ideal, as it picks up repeats if
yo=
u don't specify the date, and misses Top Gear when they show it on a
differ=
ent day over Christmas.  It's got a USB port though, so you can extract
pro=
grams, and burn them to DVD should you wish.  It also does MP3s and
picture=
s if you want it to.
