Hi Rob,
Glad to hear the good opinion re the 4306...
Not overly familiar with the settings for the Sky HD output, - haven't
had cause to "tinker" with them, I've got my output resolution
set to
"Automatic", rather than fixing at any set resolution. I didn't
think
the sky box did any upscaling internally? - I could be wrong of
course... My sky HD box has been set to automatic since I got it and I
haven't experimented with fixing it at any of the other resolutions....
One thing that I have read during my research is that the 4306 only
upscales analog video, - NOT anything coming in via the HDMI ports.. - I
Believe HDMI inputs are passed through without any additional
processing. In which case to upscale SD material from sky, it must be
connected via analog component instead of (or as well as I guess)
HDMI...
I'm hoping to iron out all of these questions via the services of a
knowledgeable dealer, I'll post to the list when I get any
conclusions...
Cheers.
Paul G.

I have a 4306 and am very happy with it - the HD switching, upscaling
and network connection were the things that attracted me most.
Also have a look at the Marantz SR8001. Had this one been around I
would have considered this as well:
fuseaction=Products.Product&cont=eu&bus=hf&prod_id=3660&series=comp&ty
pe=avr>
I've not used one of these so dont know how well it performs, however
the spec does look good and the price appears to be around that of
the 4306.
I already use 2 out of 3 of my HDMI ports and am about to use the
3rd, so the fact that the Marantz has 4 ports looks good to me - I
will probably buy a PS3 at some point.
I would add that setting up the Denon via the web interface is far
easier than using the front panel, so that is certainly an advantage.
I also wanted to use the Denon to upscale the sky SD, however as far
as I can tell you have to set the sky to one output format or
another, it doesnt switch automatically, so to get HD I have it set
to 1080i, so it upscales the SD itself, if I set the output to SD I
dont get the HD channels in HD - maybe I am doing something wrong
here it was some time ago and I havent tried again since.
If you have any luck with the sky I would be interested to know how
you go.
Cheers,
Rob
