Thanks Steve, that is the sensor if I do handroll it...but still
searching
for a module before I dig out the PCB design software :-)

RS Components have loads of current transformers starting at a few pence.
They also have current sensing relays that you can connect a current
transformer to but they're rather more expensive.

That's the principle, Chris, except it can only go round one wire of the
two
and needs 100s of turns ('current transformer') then amplification etc. I
can build it, but surely someone has one as a pre-built module for around a
fiver? Closest so far is about £12.50 for an 'Intelliplug' then rip
its guts
out...
