Re: Wanted - auto sensing speaker switch
The Russound Auto A/B switch although it has no output connection it
has
an LED on it to indicate when speaker level input B is active - you
might be able to get enough volts from this by a couple of wires to
trigger a Comfort input and the switch function might have a use. Only
for speaker level signals though.
Alternatively you could attach a diode /resistor to an electrolytic
capacitor that would 'charge' as the music played . The voltage across
the capacitor would be the zone input to Comfort. What voltage does
Comfort need to see a change in state on an input ? Again this would be
much better from a speaker level output but may even work from a line
level depending on volume. You need to ensure at speaker level the
voltage across the capacitor can't exceed the max input allowable to
Comfort with say a Zener diode across the capacitor. Or maybe Comforts
inputs are normally 'pull down' ie 0V/short is the activation ? This
might marginally impact your sound quality too, particularly if it was
workable at line level. .
A better solution would be a fancier active circuit that had higher
input impedance and an open collector or opto / relay output. Sure
somebody will make such a thing .. just finding it (or building it).
