Temperature Logging

Hi all

I am looking at trying to log temperatures in the garage and around the
house.

So am looking at a cheap way of logging Max and Min temperatures, at first
on a daily basis
But maybe then looking at it in more detail i.e. a reading logged every
hour.
Probably be PC downloadable?
I could maybe spare an old laptop to do some of the work if this opens up
the possibilities

Can anyone think of some cheap ideas to do this?
