If you're wanting to take a long term view, the only way you'll avoid
traffic shaping is by going for a PAYG account. If your usage is
reasonable (<15G/month perhaps), then the cost will work out in the same
kind of ball park. Some PAYG providers (f2s and plus.net for example)
have periods (eg. early hours of the morning) when bandwidth usage is
free too.
