Re: RE: OT: Halogen spotlights for bathroom

Right, I've found my On Site Guide and checked what it said:

In Figures 4d & 4e the space under the bath is indicated with an
asterisk, this says
"Zone 1 i the space is accesible without the use of a tool.
Spaces under the bath, accessible only with the use of a tool, are
outside the zones."

Then in Section 9 "Special Locations Giving Rise to Increased Risk of
Electric Shock", table 8.1 says
"Outside Zones - no requirement for minimum degree of protection [i.e.
no IPxxrating required] - Appliances allowed - Accessories allowed
except for socket outlets. SELV sockets and shaver supply units to BS
EN 60742 Chap 2 Sect 1 allowed."

So, it would seem that you have a fair bit of freedom under there, as
long as you don't install a socket. Hard-wiring the whirlpool unit
into an IP65 box might be a reasonably compromise. While the Regs
state you don't need a rated (i.e. IPxx) box, if it were me I think
I'd put one in anyway just for piece of mind.

I can scan & send the relevant pages if anyone is interested.

HTH,

Tim.
