Andy,
My understanding is that it would HAVE to be IP44 or above, the RCD
shouldn=
't be treated as primary form of protection. Personally I've ran IP55
12vol=
t halogens in the bathroom, they give a nicer light and are safer.
I am currently installing a new bathroom and have a whirlpool bath to
insta=
ll. This runs of a normal 3 pin plug 240v and I am not sure how this
should=
be wired up.. i.e. if I run 240v to a socket under bath (that is on its ow=
n RCD protected spur) and not accessible without removing the bath panel
th=
en is that OK? I am thinking of actually using an external IP65 rated
socke=
t enclosure as a double precaution. It sound OK to me but am concerned
that=
it might not be acceptable if I ever sell the house..
Always make me smile that when you go on holiday (Spain, France etc) they
h=
ave light switches and even sockets in their bathrooms..=20
..Bl**dy UK Nanny state !

I know this is a little OT guys but I did post to UK_SelfBuild and got abs=
olutely zero response.
Father wants to put some mains halogen spotlights in the bathroom.
Does anything fitted in Zone 1 (above a shower) have to be IP44 rated or a=
s long as it is working off a 30mA earth leakage trip is it OK?
B&Q do some special shower halogens that are IP44 for =A314 but can he
use=
anything as long as they are off an earth trip?
Do the same rules apply if he goes down the 12V route?
Thanks=20
Andy
