Re: Fw: Stair LEDs

Hi Gareth

Here are the basic specs from the design which I completed last night.

7 inputs for external triggers and configuration. ESD protection
Serial port for re-programming and complex configuration where available.
Also enables remote configuration away from the permanent mounting spot
20 outputs at least 100 ma each
Thermal protection on all outputs (resettable fuses)
Power and feedback LED's
20 removable LED connectors (2 X 10 way) see
http://www.rapidelectronics.co.uk/
and search on 21-1640
10 separate removable ground connectors (2 X 5 way)
Power is 12 volts in and I tap off this to get the micro running

PCB layout bit will be come later as I waiting on some thermal fuses to see
their footprint.

If I actually build one or two of these is anyone interested in them. I
plan to use it on my front step lights as long as I can work out the beam
break practicalities. I would estimate the PCB to be the most expensive bit
at around a tenner professionally produced in quantities of 2 or cheaper if
more than 4. Components will be surface mount to keep the size down and
that is what I use these days. For this reason most people would not be
interested in a kit. For stairs as per Gareth's setup pressure mats or
something similar may be the answer.

The 5 extra inputs and status LED will make configuration a breeze within
reason if not using the serial option.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Ian

The configuration could be done with a single button if you are
talking about using a uController of some sort. Something along these
lines:

1)Press and hold switch for (say) 10secs
2)Flash all LEDs twice
3)Pres button , wait for desired trigger time, press again.
4)Flash all LEDs three times
5)Press button, wait for desired light up gap, press again.
6)Flash LEDs in sequence at this speed to show what it looks like
7)Press button, wait fot desired turn off time, press again.
8)Flash LEDs four times.
9)Job done!

By pressing and holding the button for 10secs at any time you could
start again. The uC could also time out after a set time.

Obviously, a second button could make this more elegant.......
