Many moons ago my stepfather went to buy some timber.

He asked for some "2x1" and was told it was no longer available
as they had
gone metric.
What he should be asking for was "50x25".

OK he says.... how much is it ?

"10 pence a foot" !!!! :)

I once followed a fairly large van that must have been worked on by two
different signwriters as the was a warning about the width of the vehicle
in
feet and inches and another warning about the height in metric.
