I'd dispute this.  I'm living in a rented house, so my heating
automation is limited to on/off operation of the whole lot via a relay
across the thermostat.  However, I've found that being able to control
heating based on average temperatures and room occupation is still a
great improvement over a simple thermostat in a draughty rroom that we
don't actually spend much time in.
