Have a look at www.xbox-scene.com and their forums, should be some
more info on there.

The MCE Extender disc as far as I know was never released in the UK,
you can buy it on ebay tho and away you go, guess you'll just need to
enter some settings and away you go.  No mods required but I don't
know what restrictions you'll have.

Other option of course if =A330 for a chip, chip it, but your own
dashboard on and you have something far more powerful than an MCE
extender! :)
