I recently got a Landis & Gyr meter (ZCE127acer53) for exactly
this purpose=
.
It was from http://www.jwinstruments.co.uk
and was a very reasonable =A329 =
(+vat & p&p).
It will be fitted soon, as the consumer unit is being replaced when the
new=
kitchen goes in next month. When the sparks is in to change the consumer u=
nit, I will get him to fit the new meter. I am working on a microprocessor
=
interface to count the pulses from the meter, and send them to the server
v=
ia a USB. My gas meter also has a pulsed contact, so that will hopefully
be=
hooked up to the same interface device.
I did toy with the idea of the device to read the flashes on the LED of
the=
supply companies meter, but my electric meter is in one of those lovely wh=
ite boxes outside the house, and trying to route the cables would have
been=
a real ball ache. The consumer unit on the other hand is under the stairs =
which conveniently backs onto my office, a simple hole through the
internal=
wall will now sort out the cable route.
If anyone is interested I can put details of this project up on a webpage
o=
nce completed.

Kevin,
I take it you mean leaving the current meter insitu and wiring another
pulsed meter in-between that meter and the consumer box ?
Any advice on a particular make/model or supplier ?
I seem to remember seeing some that where DIN mountable for use on boats ?
I suppose I could even have two secondary meters so I could monitor usage
of lighting circuit vs sockets

It really is very cost effective to add a secondary meter with a proper=20
pulsed output - they're sub =A350 (+fitting) and way more dependable
than=20
optical. Fitting is around a 30 minute job.
