Now there's a coincidence!!
I was about to write up my latest HTPC build for the group, and whilst it
i=
s
similar i've made some key decisions which differ to Tom's setup (though it
is Pentium M based). For now, I'll post the kit list as a teaser, with a
full review due in a week or so.
Processor Intel Pentium M 725 Socket 479 1.6GHz 2MB
Motherboard Asus P4P800-VM with Asus CT-479 478>479 adaptor
Memory Crucial DDR PC3200 CL3 unbuffered non-ECC DDR400
Video card Asus 256MB Radeon 9250 DDR TV/DVI 8x=20
Hard drive Maxtor Diamondmax 10 250GB SATA150 16MB 6L250S0
TV card Black Gold Black Gold Digital dual pack
DVD writer NEC ND-3540 BLACK
Remote Microsoft Media Centre remote
Case & PSU mediaPC.TV HTPC case
Round IDE cable Quiet PC Round IDE cable, 18inch, 1 device=09
CPU fan 70mm AcoustiFan: DustPROOF=09
Case fan 80mm AcoustiFan: DustPROOF & anti-vibration
gasket=09
Total price if you have to buy the lot (excluding Windows MCE 2005) would
b=
e
just under =A3700 - but I had half the bits to start with, so it was less
painful.
The box itself is the same size as a hi-fi separate, and thanks to the
different fans (which run slower using a 5V supply) it is nearly silent -
you can only hear the fan in a silent room if you listen really hard!! The
CPU and case seem to keep to around 45 degs C, and the box is on 24x7.
As I said, review with pictures to follow.
Cheers,
k
