I had a similar problem where the headphone socket was recessed and the
plug was too wide to sink down. I swapped the lead for a cheaper one
with a narrower barrel :-/

CPC has a pretty good selection of this sort of stuff and most of the
prices are trivial so if it sounds crap/don't fit you haven't lost much.
Try www.cpc.co.uk, part # AV06754 at 57p, or AV00999 at 80p and work
your way upwards :-)
I have a few of these leads just for trying things out and they're ok.
You'd pay a lot more in the high street for the same quality connects so
at least you're not getting ripped off at CPC.

If there is a noticeable difference - arrange the output from the
sockets so that the cheapo cable goes to the least critical room.
