The DAB chipsets are pretty low power these days, but yes driving
speakers consumes a fair bit of power.

eg. the Pure Evoke 2 can run off batteries, but only lasts 10 hours at
1/4 volume! (6 C cells...)

I hear what you're saying though. There's no fundamental reason why it
couldn't be done, really...
