Linux Server

In the past I ran a SME (e-smith) server but it wiped out and took a lot of
data with it. I have not run a home server since, but disk space is getting
tight and its all data so a server is in order.

Is there a preference amongst the group? I had thought about NT4 / 2K but
would prefer Linux (not that I am an expert I just like the ideal).

It will be behind a firewall and I am not thinking about giving access to
it
from the net at the moment but I can see some advantages in the future.

Any thoughts?

Sean
