Or not.

Their thermostats are dirt cheap and look quite good, whereas the PC
software is developed, and thus all of its relatively high cost and
the support goes to the bottom line.  Thats the moneyspinner.  Thus
you can understand why they want to protect sales of it.

Looking at the instruction book it looks like this is a RS485 serial
link, so probably not too hard to reverse engineer.
