We had a similarly enthusiastic response when one of the ruddy great
Matrix UPSs at work decided to rupture a few of its batteries too...

...of course they were well outside of the APC warranty so I guess it's
understandable but I should still have the photos somewhere of the
warped and ruptured batteries which were bloody impressive. Thank any
god you happen to believe in that no-one was nearby when they went as
there was acid goop a good distance from the battery cases!

My 2-pennerth ... get another one from someone like Andy Whitfield - I
wouldn't trust any bit of kit that's failed like that once to be left
alone in a property unattended again.
