RE: Re: VOIP help required
Hmmmm.....we use Skype for all our intra-office comms between mainland
Europe, here (UK) and the US. everything is encrypted, so aside from the
lack of control over the resilience of the service, there's no logical
reason, other than ignorance, that the top brass should object to it. That
said, I know that one of our major clients were barred from using it
because
the IM client that's bundled with Skype conflicted (in a commercial way) to
their MSN rollout. The frustration with Skype is that they're not
interesting in developing a 'business' product, they're all about providing
a service to the masses at the moment.
As for India, we're currently using a development house that all use Skype
based out of Bangalore (in fact they're developing a Skype-based solution
for us, maybe), and there are lots and lots of other companies using out
there clearly for commercial purposes. It might be illegal, but it's not
stopping people from using it.

Ahh yes, Skype ;-)
We looked into that but came across 2 problems:
1) It's a public server, which the top brass are not happy with using
2) According to the people in the other office (which is in India) Skype is
banned for commercial use by the Indian Government!! (Cant confirm the
truth
in this)
Thanks
Stuart

If you really only want to use soft phones, and you really don't forsee any
need for long term PSTN connectivity or PABX connectivity, then use Skype.
The Skype softphones are far superior in terms of call quality to anything
else out there at the moment.
