I have this same issue with a TV in bedroom which has 32" Sony CRT TV
and the S-video input connected to a PC is rubbish. Tried several
variations with no success. I read a post about using a Radeon 9xxx
card's VGA port in RGB with custom wired SCART and PowerStrip :

http://www.idiots.org.uk/vga_rgb_scart/

I might give this a try.

This is of course no good if you only have composite or s-video
available on the TV
