I had two of the original blue-plastic cased USB2/Firewire drives and they
were shite...

...the drives were fine but the cases cooked the drives something silly
(and
they do so to any drives that I have subsequently put in them as soon as
the
lids are put on) - I had a go at Maxtor about it and they said there was no
design fault with the cases (no fan at all) but shortly after they did
redesign the cases and since then they have been fine.
