Sounds like the sort of prices I'm interested in!

AMDs maybe slightly better for gaming, but they run a lot hotter as far as
I
know.

Glad it worked out well Malcom!

You can actually get even cheaper stuff as those prices were from a couple
of months ago.

Or you go for a Celeron chip and an even cheaper Asus motherboard. I think
a
chip can be had for about £50? Or maybe less.

I.e. Intel Celeron D320 2.4GHZ £46.09
Asus motherboard = £27.37

It is a good chip as well!!

Voila.

Check ebuyer.

for Sims2 you might find you need a new graphics card too. I had the same
dilemma just before Xmas (but for my 14 year old son!). I eventually went
with a suggestion received on here from Ho Yin - see below

This worked really well - I spent a bit more on graphics cards though.
Only
thing I've had to do since buying them is add a case fan to keep temps down
a bit.

You might want to consider an AMD instead of an Intel though as articles
I've read since this suggest that their processors are better for gaming.
My
sons have no complaints with their upgrades though,,,

Swmbo wants a new computer so that she can run SIMS2 (no I don't know why
either) - just need a new Mobo and processor.

Anyone know where I can find 'yesterdays technology' cheaply.
