That'll be because they are intedned for 100 volt line installations.

No and Yes :-)

No, you cant just connect them to your amp unless you have a 100v line
output

Yes, just disconnect the transformer and you will have a "normal"
4 or 8 ohm
speaker. (The transformer will probably have taps marked 4 and 8 ohms which
will indicate what your speaker is.). Then connect it to your amp :-)
