John,

Can I suggest, purely for selfish reasons that you look at Homeseer
www.hom=
eseer.com as the backend of your system. I use 1 wire temp sensors with
the=
older Temp05 and am very pleased with its performance and stability. My Ho=
meseer PC collects the data and using the mcsTemperature plug-in I can get
=
very presentable displays of temp graphs etc. via the Homeseer web
server..=
. All very easy to integrate with other 'display' devices.

By having this information in Homeseer its easy to add functions, as
descri=
bed earlier, like water leak detection, and possibly even things like
tumbl=
e dryer finished cycle depending on other concurrent loads on the wiring.
L=
ong term logging and display of gas / oil utilization I believe would also
=
be easier to achieve for the those, like myself, who don't do code work.

There is a very active and helpful forum for Homeseer users who could help
=
identify suitable existing code or may even help develop new scripts...=20

I'm not saying Homeseer is better than the others, although I do think you
=
might find a wider audience and end up with something easier to integrate
i=
n the long run.

Just my 2p worth....

Subject: [ukha_d] Electrical/Oil consumption via 1-wire

Okay, the recent topic of electrical consumption monitoring has got my
inte=
rest well and truly up. I am looking to setup both electrical and oil
monit=
oring now. On doing various bits of web research I have come up with my
'de=
sign', however this will be my first little venture into the world of
1-Wir=
e stuff so want some else to validate it.

The idea is to use both a CU and oil meter that has a pulse output. These
w=
ould be connected to a 1-Wire general purpose counter (http://tinyurl.com/6=
cf5n <http://tinyurl.com/6cf5n> ). I would
then plan to use a TEMP08 or LOG=
08 stand alone controller from Midon Design (http://www.midondesign.com/ <h=
ttp://www.midondesign.com/> ). The biggest unknown would be how to then
ret=
rieve that data into something useful, ideally into some form a database.

I've just been in touch with Bell Flow Systems (thanks James for that
one),=
however the price of there oil meters is a tad expensive at =A3285 each (a=
nd I would need two).

Any comments and suggestions gratefully received.

JB
