labgear / loft box with CCTV feed

Hi All
I am trying to install a new CCTV camera for the babies room. I have a
Labgear MRX390 similar to loftbox, a simple colour camer and an RF
modulator.
If I plug the camer and modulator into the TV on a short cable it all
work fine. If I then connect via the dist amp it works with a test
signal but I get no picture when i turn of test to see the camera.
Is it simply that the signal is too low and I need to add a small amp
between the modulator and CCTV input?
Any help would be welcome as I am getting a bit frustrated!
