Another solution ...If you intend to use some KAT5 modules which
now have ir tx / rx  built into them ,you could connect the output of the
KAT5 TX Units to a modded FirM  which will pass on the ir to its output and
also will identify which zone (would need to connect a serial interface to
FirM).....
Upside only 1 cat5 cable required
Downside  you wont be able to send ir to the room receiving (afaik)......
