Hi Ian,

Its not very elegant but this is what I do when I run 2 lengths of cat5
to a
socket:

Connect the 2 sockets together with a length of cat5 to make a loop.

Use a multimeter at the source end to check that each of the 8 cables is
complete.

Has worked fine for me so far and no need for expensive testers.
