I've had a look on the site and cant see anything other than the manual
- which I've looked thru to see if I can see anything to point me in the
right direction .. but no joy.

It's a model 6 so I assume it should be 'intelligent'

If only if was as simple as a pc !

I think I'll go and speak with Moorgate acoustics - my local hifi shop
to seek their advice.

Sounds like a speaker cabling shorting.  The cyrus amp has built in
intellegance and so that shouldnt have blown (my cryus amp certainly
doesnt, but the older models might not).
