maybe I just got a bad batch?! The largest cog in the 'gearbox' has split
in each of mine. The cog in itself is probably just a few pence to replace
but I've had to replace the gearbox each time at a cost of £50! The
replacements are guaranteed for 12 months.
I've two more windows I'd like to do in the house and I'm going to have a
look at Goelst units this time around (bit more expensive) but look to be
sturdier all round.

Hmmm.
I have 2 Autoglide curtains, and the one is on my bedroom balcony,
the power supply is screwed to the beam.
It is a white molded sealed unit, and I can't say I have ever heard
any buzz from it, and I am usually upset by that kind of thing, if I
get a chance I will put my ear up to it, but I am confident, it is
not audible from the bed 2 meters away.

sounds like not fit for purpose! I shall have to keep an eye on mine!
