I hadnt come across the plugs for solid cable but have seen many cases of
incorrect termination with IDC connectors. Stranded cable in IDC Punchdowns
also doesnt work too well as the strands move into a vertical alignment so
the splines dont bite into the cable and form a gas tight "cold
weld" as a
proper solid conductor would. Whilst a stranded cable in a puchdown will
work fine initially it can over time oxidise and give an unreliable
connection.
