Yeah, the DMX side did seem to be the simpler.  My issue with the PIC was
whether it would be fast enough to control the triacs for dimming 8 lights.
That problem goes away if I use the dimmer chip, and I won't have to code
quite as optimally to handle the other functions (DMX commands , RS232 PC
Interface and lightswitch monitoring).
