The trouble with this (and ending randomly in the last X hours) is that
it shifts the balance towards the seller (too much IMHO) - there is
nearly always a muppet out there who won't let it go for the sake of a
minimum bid increment...

I think it's fairly balanced as it is.

(After all, if you don't want something to sell for a low price, you can
use a reserve/starting price...)
