RE: Automated Bin - a more serious suggestion

I remember my Dad telling me a story about a rubbish shoot in an apartment
he once stayed in

Him and his Brother in Law used to lob empty drinks cans in their chute
hatch and make out they were loading torpedoes - open hatch, load torpedo,
fire etc...

They we running down the stairs one day and came to a halt in front of a
woman standing in front of the chute with the open door in one hand, a
rubbish bag in the other, looking down at two spinning beer cans spinning
at
her feet.

I suppose you had to be there ;-)

Dave

Someone still has to make sure the chute doesn't get blocked and that the
bin is emptied or moved when full ;-)

Been doing some thinking about this, and I'm not convinced that the
"bin on
wheels" in the right way to go.

The problem is actually "how do I automate rubbish removal"
rather than "how
do I empty the bin".

The answer may be in "laundry chutes" - a self-build friend of
mine has
these, and they work very well. Just a big tube, at the bottom of which is
an oversized laundry basket.

It wouldn't be beyond the wit of man to add one of these for waste
disposal... and add an extra in the kitchen that vented organic waste
straight to the compost bin outside.

Not exactly retro-fittable, but worth considering for the 2007 self-build
:-)
