Personally I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole!
(I haven't really gotten into the wireless thing so my opinions are
based on wired products)
I bought a DG814 instead of a Vigor 2600 on the basis of price - it was
a saving of around £60. Within a couple of months, there was a major
compatibility problem with the chipset used in the DG814 (and some other
cheap routers) and several ISPs (my ISP is Nildram) meaning that I was
constantly being disconnected. After much frustration I bit the bullet,
bought a 2600 and ebay'd the 814 for which I got a decent price.... :)
Aside from a small lockup problem with the 2600 (which only manifests
itself when UDP DoS is switched on and SWMBO is running *2* simultaneous
copies of Star Wars Galaxies - the problem was fixed by switching off
UDP flood.... not ideal, but she insists on running 2 copies), it has
been perfect.
Yes the 2600G is £173.84 at www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk which is
£70 more
than your price but:-
2600G has inbuilt VPN functionality (including desktop client -> router
VPN and router -> router VPN), the DG834 supports VPN passthrough only
2600G has a USB print server allowing you to network enable a cheap
printer in node 0, DG834 doesn't offer this feature
DG834 has "User Support: Up to 253 LAN users" which on the DG814
at
least meant max 253 connections, which can cause a big issue if you are
using some P2P applications. The 2600 (and any other brand of routers as
far as I'm aware of!) have no such limitation.
I have no interests in either brand of routers other than as a consumer,
but personally I'd go for pushing the boat out and buying the big boy
technology.... you might end up kicking yourself if you don't!
Just my €0.02
Cheers
