RE: [OT] Anyone heard of OEM-CD before?

I did hear of a major OEM "loosing" an early copy of XP Pro
between the OEM
release and the public release and hence there was a small change to the
commercial version & SP's to trap this "lost" version. The SP
link, is
possibly to a cracked version.

The site's FAQ's described it as backup software, this suggests a backed up
copy of someone else's software, perhaps using a license key generator,
hence the license keys may unlock the product, but will not be in a valid
range and hence be locked out of any future SP releases. There's also no
mention of the self adhesive license number or Welcome booklet that you get
with the OEM versions of Windows !

I'd suggest the best bet is to keep well clear and report them to MS :-) As
pointed out earlier OEM software is for supply with an OEM machine (or
sufficient number of parts to be making a new machine). You're most
probabl=
y
going to end up with a pirated copy.

Also, OEM software will not usually support an upgrade, only a fresh
install.
