I wouldn't worry too much about it being robust.  Place it in an inside
chest pocket, and it'll be fine.  I've always carried mine there, and never
had any issues, and I do have some pretty big falls from time to time
(quite fond of getting air and powder - often together).

I don't know the cameras you listed, but one thing to bear in mind is the
zoom.  You won't need it for landscapes, and closeup portraits, but try
getting an action shot without a zoom!  Also, you may want to get something
that you can set the ISO rating, and shutter priority with, as snow &
action are difficult to film.
