Car laptop audio front end?

I tried out my laptop in the car as a source of audio, with mostly good
suc=
cess. I used a dummy tape and a power adaptor from those nice people at
Map=
lin (=A310!). Howewer, when SWMBO asked me to skip a track she didn't
like,=
she was not amused by my suggesting that she dug the laptop out from under=
her seat, minding the wires, of course, opening the lid and changing the t=
rack with iTunes - especially as it was 1400x1050 and I've just got her
ont=
o 1024x768, and anyway she didn't know where her glasses were.

So, are there any suggestions as to a way of front ending a PC with a
simpl=
e navigation device to enable album/playlist and track selection.
Potential=
ly useful assets are the W2K PC, an old Palm, and the ability to write
soft=
ware.

Pete
