Sucessfully delivering mail via POP3 requires that the ISP (or
whoever is the SMTP receiver) puts the RCPT TO: data into an email
header. Once that is done there is no difference in reliability or
deliverability of messages compared to standard SMTP.
UUCP is exactly the same, and for many years many of us used UUCP to
grab email, with no lack of reliability or deliverability.
Thus, Mr Lowe's assertion that it works for him is well founded.
I'm certain that with older exchange, to do POP3 collection you
needed an addon product. Dunno about modern exchange.
