RE: X10 Alternatives

Hi Andy

Ive been running X10 in my house for about 2 years, its basic X10 but
Its never ever failed. Its not doing anything hightec, just dimming
and switching Lights. I have it integrated with my comfort system for
time controls and other events.

But I cant think of a time when its gone wrong.

Depending on the house its possible to rewire for X10 without digging
out the walls, the upstairs can easily be done.

There are also mini x10 modules that can fit behind a light switch that
I have used downstairs where its not possible to easily rewire down the
walls. These work well.

In the past 6 months ive put x10 lighting control into about 12 new
house builds with out any problems at all. I think its quite reliable
or has been thus far.
Simon

Subject: [ukha_d] X10 Alternatives

I know this is a frequent question, so I've posted it at the FAQ
(http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/faq).
 I thought I'd start another
thread to
try and dig up all the possible alternatives. What are my options?

X10:
I've heard it's unreliable (in comparison to others) and slow to use.

CBus:
Seems well regarded, but will require extensive rewiring considering I
only
replastered most rooms quite recently.

DIY:
I'm sure I saw a few people having a go at this. Anyone got anything
working I can put my soldering iron to?

Others:
Is there anything?

Personally, my requirements are that the system should not require me to
rewire the house, and should be transparent to the user. This means
that if
someone presses a light switch twice because it didn't work first time,
the
system is not good enough. Am I asking too much? Should I spend my
money
on replastering again and CBus?

Cheers,
Andy
